Schools Plane Making Challenge

Every year British Woodworking invites schools to enter the Schools Planemaking Challenge, supported by Axminster Tool Centre. We provide each school with plans and instructions, fittings for any students who will be taking part, and three free blades per class. More blades are available at £3.00 plus p&p each.

The idea is to show students that they can make a tool they can use. The challenge aims to promote self-reliance and the use of hand tools. Hopefully the small plane each student makes will be kept for years to come as a reminder of what they have achieved. Because most people have never seen a wooden plane before, there is nothing to compare, and many visitors to our exhibition of entries have thought the schoolchildren's planes are professionally made, and even for sale.
